unit 2 evaluation

when i first entered the course i had no experience what so ever. After attending my media lessons i learnt basic knowledge on a mac, my photoshop skills, how to load up a tape and how to set up a tripod for shooting a video. I also learnt how to use a scanner which scans the work i have done of the mac and puts it on the mac for me. The things i do need to improve on is being able to use photoshop without asking for help and start doing the more advanced things.

When it came to saving and storing materials i made sure that i organised all my files and gave them the correct names, i also created a folder called ‘media’ to put all my finished pieces in so i would not loose the files, but i needed to improve on the speed of my work and remembering to upload my finished piece on to my blogger.

while doing my work i think i could of a worked a bit more accurately and took more care with my work. I need to work on my grammar in my treatment and constantly keep checking my spelling and make sure i use capital letters when they are needed in my treatment/report etc. I also need to start cropping my photos to make them look a lot neater.

As the course has gone on i have improved more and become more creative with my work, this was because of all the research i have been doing, but i think there is more i need to improve on so i think more research is needed to make my work better.  

When i began the course i had no experience or skill so i think my knowledge has improved greatly within the past few months of doing the course. I have learnt how to use final cut, photoshop etc. but i still think i could improve and learn more about the course before i finish.

I am still struggling on my photoshop skills but i am starting to improve. I do not know all i need to know for photoshop or final cut but i can save my work correctly and do the page layout and design correctly. i am going to improve my skills by updating my blogger and put my pieces in order, and i am going to learn the more advanced skills in photoshop.

Research report

I have been researching to find out about the different type of forms of a music video.  While doing the research i looked into various aspects including the analysis of a music video with the same artist and genre throughout.

I then researched the conventions of the music video like how there is a relationship between the lyrics and the visuals etc. i looked on a website to show me how to shoot a music video so i know about all the different shots that could be used. I downloaded the lyrics to look for imagery and ideas. i then created a moon board, i print screened 4 images from a music video of the same artist to help me visualise my music video. I then presented it to a group of people and let them give me feedback on my idea.

Looking at my chosen artists i learnt the different types of shots that can be used. i also learnt how different genres have different ways of presenting the video and the artist i used had a lot of close ups of him and had no background dancers, i also noticed most of his videos were shot in a street location and always had a dark atmosphere. All the research i made changed my idea throughout the course because it has helped me learn more about the different shots that are used in different genres.

Music video anaylsis

1.The video I am analysing is called end credits by plan b, The genre of the song is Drum and bass, liquid funk, indie rock, acoustic.
2. There is a lot of relationships between the lyrics and the visuals because in the video he does exactly what it talks about in the lyrics, where it talks about him wanting to have people there when he dies, and at the end he is lying on the floor dead with people around him.
3. The video does cut to the beat, it shows instrumental bits in the video, the video changes pace with the music as it gets into the chorus, then when it goes back in to the second verse it slows down.
4.the close ups of the artist are the star image, they are looking to sell the track by showing what the genre of the video is and what goes on, the video relates to the previous videos by the artists because his songs are usually in a dark environment, and this one is in the street at night he is always looking into the camera and is always wearing a hooded jacket. The motives have been used previously because he sings about his life and what he has been through and is always doing he shouldn't be doing. the record company have presented plan as a man with a lot of troubles that regrets the past, they make him look like a bit of a gangster.
5. yes there is a reference to the notion of looking because it shows the cctv and how he got caught murdering someone. the artist or any other people in the video are not on a sexual display, there is no dance in the video so therefore there is no sexual dancing in it. There is references such as CCTV watching over him fight, it has been chosen to show how he got caught.
6. They don't relate to other music videos it relates more to a film or a TV programme.
7. the music video is just narrative based.
8. yes it is worth drawing together my main points, and emphasising that it is a rap (gangster) song.

As my video analysis i did different screen shots from Plan B's music videos i took five screen shots from each video clip to help give the idea of what the story was in the video. I noticed that in all the three videos that i chose it is a dark atmosphere and it is always focused on him, also the wardrobe colours are pretty dull and are set in dull/dark places which connect to what he is singing about. The songs are all about the things he has done wrong in his life. The lyrics in each music video connect to what the video is about so it makes sense and helps you understand exactly what its about.

Music video Analysis

In this video analysis i took three different video's which are the same genre as Plan B and i print screened different parts of the videos to point out the similarities between both music videos. Its shows in all the videos how they are all dark and focused on the main singer and also the artists all have dark clothing on which also connects to the video and lyrics, just like in the Plan B videos. with all the dark clothing in the video it connects to the atmosphere which helps you understand what type of mood the video it is and what it will be about, the videos are also all set in a dark room which also gives you a idea on what type of mood it is like with Plan B.

This is my magazine cover. I used the colours for this magazine because i thought it made it look a bit more classy compared to the other magazines that are being sold. also i found that if i used the same colour writing as beyonce's dress it would make the magazine look more proffesional and not scruffy. i made the background white so it would make the writing stand out and will make it easy and clear to read. I chose beyonce knowles as my front cover because she is a very popular artist so if people see that she is in the magazine then it will attract them too it more. in my magazine it will be about fashion, music artists, and advice on foods. I think that people will be atracted to this magazine because although it is nearly the same as other magazine it is slightly different with the more classy look.

The magazine proposal for this magazine would be whisper.

The purpose on my magazine is to entertain and give out information on what is going on in the celebrity world. It also gives out advice to people about food etc and also includes the latest trends and gossip. I think my magazine would be close to the magazine called "Bliss". I think this because it is the same genre magazine and it talks about the same things my magazine would. Each week a new series of the magazine is brought out with more information and the latest trends inside.

I Made the title bold and clear so you could understand what it was called. i also used a image of beyonce as the front cover which would be changed to a different celebrity each week. this magazine is different because i made it look a bit more classy so it wouldn't be the same as the others and would be more eye catching for the audience . The purpose of the whisper magazine is to inform people about what is going on in the media and the fashion industry.

The target audience for this magazine is teenagers and young adults. the reason for this is because it gives out the latest fashions and has information on the music industry etc which i dont think young children or older adults would be interested in.

After creating my magazine cover i did a questionaire and to find out what peoples different opinions are on magazines, and to see what the best thing for a magazine is to help improve on it. I asked to see who actually read magazines and then i put the results in to a pie chart and it showed that 80% do read magazines and only 20% said they dont, i also asked the gender and the ages of the people who are interested in this type of magazine and i found that 70% of females at the age of 11-16 read this type of magazine and 90% like the free gifts that came with the magazine which gives a idea on the certain age range and gender so it will make it easier to know what to put in the next magazine.
